Critical Load is an adult romance visual novel set in the high desert outside Pinto Wells, Arizona, where a 1.2-gigawatt hyperscale AI data center drinks the aquifer and pulls more power than the surrounding county combined. You play as Wade Hollis, the local-born Critical-Facilities Director who signs the load-shed log and decides who stays lit when the grid runs short.

Six weeks before a record heat dome peaks, an inquiry hangs over the last shed order, one that left a man dead in a 118-degree trailer, yet the company's go-live deadline won't move. In a town that remembers your name, three women pull you in three incompatible directions, each romance a different way of answering the same question: who gets carried when there isn't enough to carry everyone?

Meet the Cast

Dahlia Reyes — The Grid Operator
Dahlia is the regional grid operations director whose dispatch order can carry Wade's campus through an emergency, or curtail it to black with one calm sentence. She and Wade were almost a life once: the shared apartment, the future half-built, the split neither of them would bend for. She knows his past, holds his present in her hands, and still has to be fair when the system demands a sacrifice.


Sawyer Vance — The Hydrologist
Sawyer is the county hydrologist measuring the basin as it drains, field by field, well by well, until the numbers become a verdict. She grew up two streets over from Wade, stayed when he left, and now stands at the microphone reading drawdown figures at the man he's become. To Wade, she's equal parts history and hard truth.


Nadia Sokol — The Cooling Engineer
Nadia is the lead cooling engineer who keeps a billion dollars of servers from cooking when the heat dome hits and the plant starts to fail. She's Wade's sharpest ally on the floor: deadpan, relentless, and fluent in the same late-night crisis shorthand that makes them dangerously close.
