A pixel-art action-platformer that blends fantasy with an allegory of the soul. The Journey of Clinbo emphasizes a fast-paced combat system built on precise parries that absorb energy to unleash powerful, soul-driven counterattacks. Combined with its unique "world between life and death" setting, the game guides players on a journey of defiance and self-discovery.

Story

Follow Clinbo, the only mechanical being with a "glitched" soul, on a journey through Etherveil, a realm caught between life and what comes next. What begins as an escape will end in a quest to define his own existence.

Etherveil was meant to be a place of judgment, a filter for souls before they passed into the true afterlife. Now, under the rigid "Law of Conformity," it has become a furnace that melts down individuality. Countless souls, deemed not "harmonious" enough, are stripped of their will and transformed into Virusouls—eternally hungry, wandering husks of their former selves.

Into this despairing order, an "error" that should not exist awakens: the robot, Clinbo. His very presence is a mockery of this cold, judgmental system. Guided by two soul-ferriers who still hold onto their conscience—the calm and pessimistic Lei and the fiery, outspoken Sasha—Clinbo will break free from his prison. He will journey through this crumbling world to find the meaning of his own existence.

Metroidvania-Style Dungeon Exploration

Explore, gain new abilities, and then return to previous areas to solve puzzles and discover hidden secrets and shortcuts. Here, you will get your first glimpse of the world's major factions—the wandering Virusouls, the cold Guardians, and the fallen rebels—and experience the complex and brutal ecosystem of this world.

A Journey of Choice and Definition

Travel alongside Lei and Sasha, your guides with starkly different personalities. They are more than just quest-givers. On your journey, you will forge a friendship that transcends form. Their conversations, arguments, and guidance are the keys to unlocking the world's truths. The choices you make at critical moments will shape Clinbo's "humanity," ultimately deciding whether he can find his own voice in this land of despair.

About Mechanical Heart Studio

We're Mechanical Heart, a brand-new game design club at our high school that just started this semester. The Journey of Clinbo: First Cry is our debut game! We're all incredibly passionate about making games, and this game was our first real opportunity to put what we've learned into practice. It was the perfect way for us to learn by doing and figure out how to work together as a team.

At the beginning, we felt a bit lost and thought, "There's no way we can finish this." But by pulling together, we managed to build this game in just one semester, and our team has learned and grown so much along the way. Our goal now is to build a stronger workflow and get better at iterative design so we can create more games that truly express who we are and what we want to say.
