Eureka Valley – Gateway to the Stars

After the rails had conquered Badgers Pass, carved their way through the canyons of Elk, and climbed the heights of the Eastern Range, the engineers and workers stood in awe before a vast panorama:
A wide, dry highland basin, framed by towering mountains – Eureka Valley.

Here, where silence reigns and only the desert wind whispers across the plains, the land itself seemed to invite the railway. The ground was gentle, almost kind, and so within a single year the line surged northward from Sequoia Falls all the way to the remote settlement of Piper Fields.

But ambition reached further. Rich deposits beckoned from the Eureka Mountains to the east, and soon a branch line wound its way from Sequoia Falls to the mysterious Eureka Basin – a closed valley, sometimes parched, sometimes drowned by the rivers Elk and Sequoia. At its edge, Eureka Lake station was built, a portal to new endeavors.

The Call of the Stars

In the 1950s, at the height of the space race, the government made a bold decision:
A monumental radio telescope would rise in Eureka Valley – the Eureka Telescope Array (E.T.A.). Here, science and ambition fused with the dream of reaching beyond the skies.

To sustain this vision, the telescope needed a lifeline. A new junction was laid from Eureka Lake to the Piper Fields main line, and at the crossroads, the Eureka Valley Transfer Station was born. From here, a spur climbed into the hills, delivering men, machines, and hope to the sprawling antennas of the Array.

Now, it falls to you to bring this valley to life:

• Haul machinery and spare parts to the very heart of the E.T.A., each run a step toward unlocking the secrets of the cosmos.

• Take on maintenance trains along the Array’s own tracks, where steel rails meet the frontiers of discovery.

And yet – do not forget to pause. For few places on Earth capture such vast horizons, where the silence of the desert stands side by side with humanity’s quest for the stars.
