About this game

What this game is, in the developer's words

CtrlC is an arcade game with the look of the 80s and the technology of today. You have to reach your goal, level by level. The coders among you know: Ctrl+C cancels a running program in the terminal. You might need that info sometime.

CtrlC is an arcade game with the look of the 80s and the technology of today. The coders among you know: Ctrl+C cancels a running program in the terminal. You might need that info sometime.

In (almost) 1-bit pixel graphics, you control a player that looks like a small block. You navigate through a maze of blocks. You control your character (who has cute little eyes) in a 2D top-down view. Your direction can change in 45° increments and you must time your movements correctly. Nasty obstacles, moving parts and environments that react to your movement will make it difficult for you to reach your objective without colliding.

You have to reach your goal, level by level. You are AnTron, household robot and best buddy of Roy, the son of your owners. Ok, in the game graphics your visual assets fall a bit by the wayside, but that's not the point. Without giving too much away, you come home and Roy has disappeared. Guess whose job it is to find the boy!

Play the campaign with alternating scenarios and a wild storyline that takes you through 80's hacker clichés, retro settings and weird trips.
Or play against yourself and others in free play, constantly improving your ideal line. All free levels are procedurally generated from individual elements and thus always different. However, you can save the best tracks or the biggest challenges or replay them via a (shareable) seed. Work your way up to the highest difficulty level and beat the best times of your friends in the daily challenge. All this is still too easy for you? Why not unpack the true CtrlC mode and every collision is the end? Did we mention the speed button? Do you love the challenge? Show us what you've got!

Speaking of procedural levels, with CtrlC you get a very powerful level editor that we used to create the elements and campaign levels. It's easy to get started, but you have full possibilities to build and share your dream track. If you know programming or want to learn, you can go even deeper into rabbit building. You can script your level components using Lua. From simple animations to secret passages, to wacky interactions with the player, anything is possible. You get the editor, tutorials and plenty of examples to get started right away!

Game Features in a nutshell:
  • Steer the player (a block with eyes) through a dynamic, procedurally generated maze without bumping into anything
  • Top-down 2D view, four keys are all you need
  • You can turn 45° at each step - sounds a lot, but means you'll have to pre-plan your moves as you drive in more challenging levels
  • Easy to learn, but hard to master
  • Daily challenges and ever-changing procedurally generated levels of varying difficulty
  • Play a fun campaign that takes you through wild 80's hacker dreams
  • Create your own tracks and track elements and share your creations with friends and the community
