About this game

What this game is, in the developer's words

Darkest Cube is a brutal roguelike deckbuilder where adaptation is the key to survival. Constantly refine your deck to overcome new enemies and challenges. Master tactical turn-based combat, explore a dark fantasy world, upgrade your skill tree, brew potions, and collect powerful relics.

What makes Darkest Cube special?

How does it compare to games like Slay the Spire and other roguelike deckbuilders? We asked our playtesters:

“In contrast to Slay the Spire, the deckbuilding works differently. Even if you collect many cards, you can remove them very easily. This means you can constantly refine your deck into the best possible version. But never underestimate weak-looking cards — some become incredibly powerful at higher levels.”

“The level tree is an interesting feature that supports your cards. With the right balance, every deck archetype can work. Also, gaining body parts from defeated enemies and brewing potions is a unique addition to the genre.”

“It is a brutally hard strategy game. On the highest difficulty, the challenge is to adapt your strategy multiple times during a run. It is the only way to survive.” FailFive

A True Deckbuilding Experience

Copying a deck from the internet will not save you.

With over 60 cards per class, you will discover three major archetypes, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Success comes from understanding when to shift your strategy.

You can regularly adjust your deck in cities, but also during runs using your Side Deck — a limited set of preselected cards that allows you to stay flexible. You are not at the mercy of randomness. You are always in control.

Deckbuilding and adaptation play a much bigger role than in similar games. There are no frustrating forced choices between useless cards. Progress is more deliberate, and mastering your deck takes time.

Tactical Turn Based Combat with RPG elements

In battle, every decision matters.

You choose which cards to play each turn, carefully managing your energy while reacting to unique enemy behaviors and abilities.

Sometimes defense is the key.
Sometimes aggression.
Sometimes that one forgotten card saves your run.

"Adapt or perish. Every turn counts."

Anyone who loves the core combat system of games like Slay the Spire and enjoys RPG mechanics should pay attention — this game has a special twist. Cards alone are not enough to achieve victory. Upgrade your equipment, which directly influences your abilities, collect body parts from defeated enemies to brew potions, and most importantly, invest your skill points after leveling up into a skill tree that has a direct impact on the strength of all your cards.

A Dark Fantasy World to Discover

Explore the lands of Kryom, a world caught between powerful forces.

Your mission is to seal the mysterious Dark Cubes. These cubes appear across the land, unleashing creatures that threaten humanity’s survival. As you progress, you will uncover their origins and begin to question whether humanity itself may be responsible. There is also a mechanic that hardly anyone understands — Darkness. It causes chaos, and especially in the Cubes it seems to have an effect. Research this mechanic further to understand what is behind it.

Why Early Access?

Games like Slay the Spire have shown that deckbuilders thrive with strong community involvement.

Early Access will allow players to:

  • Influence the direction of the game. We will regularly introduce new content and features, and the community will be able to vote on how they evolve.

  • Shape the game’s balance through feedback on mechanics and systems in our Discord server.

  • Share insights and suggestions directly with the developers outside of official voting periods.

We want to build Darkest Cube together with our community.
