About this game
What this game is, in the developer's words
The SW1 for Train Simulator Classic is a superb re-creation of the 600-horsepower Electro-Motive diesel, with carefully crafted details, authentic cab and controls, and realistic sounds. The SW1 is provided in both “running” and “cold and dark” versions.
Consider a diesel locomotive that was purchased by more than 80 companies ranging from railroading giants to short lines and industries, that was in production over a span of a decade and a half, and which, once in service, frequently provided its owners yeoman duty for half-a-century or more. That diesel was the extraordinary Electro-Motive SW1 diesel switcher.
Now, the landmark and long-lived Electro-Motive SW1 is available for Train Simulator Classic!
Created by renowned developer Reppo, the Electro-Motive SW1 is featured in the liveries of four of America’s great railroads – the Baltimore & Ohio, Burlington Northern, Western Pacific, and New York Central.
The SW1 for Train Simulator Classic is a superb re-creation of the 600-horsepower Electro-Motive diesel, with carefully crafted details, authentic cab and controls, and realistic sounds. The SW1 is provided in both “running” and “cold and dark” versions.
To put the SW1 in its four handsome railroad liveries to work, the DLC includes career scenarios on four popular Train Simulator Classic routes: Marias Pass (Burlington Northern); B&O Mountain Subdivision (Baltimore & Ohio); Feather River Canyon Enhanced (Western Pacific); and Boston & Albany (New York Central). And the SW1 is also Quick-Drive (QD) enabled.
Introduced in 1938, Electro-Motive’s diminutive, 600-horsepower SW1 diesel switcher was among the vanguard of American railroading dieselization and a contemporary of Electro-Motive’s historic FT freight locomotive. And yet, new SW1 diesels would continue to roll out of EMD’s La Grange (Illinois plant) until November 1953, when the last of 661 of the mite-sized diesels was delivered.
The SW1 was the first Electro-Motive switcher to employ the builder’s extraordinary successful 567-series diesel engine and derived its 600 horsepower from a six-cylinder version of the two-cycle powerplant. With a wheelbase of only 30 feet and an average weight of 196,000 pounds, the SW1 was capable of both serving in close confines and hauling significant tonnage.
New York Central was by far the most prolific buyer of the SW1, with a roster of 103 units. Baltimore & Ohio and its subsidiary B&OCT operated 22 units, Western Pacific three units, and Burlington Northern rostered SW1s of Great Northern (9 units) and Burlington Route (18 units) heritages.
With the Electro-Motive SW1 from developer Reppo, you’ll climb aboard and take the controls of one of American railroading’s most notable diesel locomotives to experience challenging and enjoyable switching duties – and the Electro-Motive SW1 is available now for Train Simulator Classic!
