ABOUT THIS GAME

A news network called Lynx partnered with a tech company called Schema to do something that should not be possible: broadcast a person's dreams, live, as TV programming.

The first show inside the technology is a game show called Supermarket Music. It airs whether you watch or not. The host is thrilled you tuned in. The contestants don't know they're contestants. The audience doesn't know what they're really watching.

You wake up inside it.

WELCOME TO THE SHOW

Hello you crazy kids hi hello hi welcome to Supermarket Music — the show on the TV right in front of you.

It's a brand new game show. Every contestant wins. Every kid at home gets a sticker. Every tired adult gets a couch and a cartoon and twenty-two minutes where nothing has to suck.

That's our brand promise. Everybody wins. (That's also our slogan. We worked on it.)

I'm your host. I am the Family Man. It's my job to keep this family together. So get on the couch. Grab some snacks. Turn the fan on. You got it.

MEET THE BAND

Today's a little different. We have a guest.

Special Feature is a journalist — capital S, capital F, that's actually her name. She's the kind of person who keeps asking questions when everyone else stops. That's why she's here.

SPECIAL FEATURE: I'm sorry — am I dreaming, or is the room talking to me?

That's Frub Bub. Wave hi, Frub.

FRUB BUB: Hi!

Frub is the show's mascot. He's a magic frog. Don't ask him about it, he gets weird about it.

FRUB BUB: I'm a frog. I do what I want.

Cool. We're all set.

WATCH WHILE YOU PLAY

Four arrows come down the screen. Up, down, left, right. You hit them with the song. You'll get it.

The song is the cartoon. Every cartoon is part of the story. They show you things — about the cast, about what's coming, about what already happened. How well you play decides how much you see. Keep up, you see more. Fall behind, you miss it.

Sometimes glitches show up — dark arrows where the colored ones should be. Don't hit those.

EVERY CHOICE MATTERS

Supermarket Music runs on the EKE — the Everybody Knows Engine. Every choice you make, somebody hears it. Depending on who knows what, songs unlock. Storylines change. Endings happen — or don't.

When it's loud you'll see it. "FRUB BUB KNOWS!" flashes in the corner. "SPECIAL FEATURE KNOWS!" Sometimes a name pops up you didn't expect.

Sometimes nothing flashes. Those are the ones that mess you up later.

So pay attention.

ARCADE MODE — JUST PLAY

If you want to skip the story and just play, that's fine. Arcade Mode is its own full game — every song, every chart, every difficulty.

Pick a VHS off the shelf. The TV flickers on. The cartoon starts. Beat charts. Chase scores. Unlock the album. Never speak to a soul if you don't want to.

The band keeps playing. The show keeps the lights on.
