About this game
What this game is, in the developer's words
A pixel-art folk horror set in a small town in northeastern Brazil. Walk the streets at night, perform five ancient rituals, watch over your light and your sanity, and flee from an entity that should not exist.
The Town Sleeps
An out-of-season storm draws near. Crickets sing their last notes of the night. Iara hadn't been back to Goianinha in years, a small town in northeastern Brazil that has been reporting strange occurrences. But that is not what fills her head as she steps off the bus at the town's ghostly bus station.
The streetlamps with their sodium-vapor bulbs stain the sleeping houses with amber light. Like an old burnt photograph. In the distance, a dog barks at the shadows of the small hours. Meanwhile, Iara walks toward her aunt's house, thinking about what her sister had said over the phone only a few hours ago. Lost in her thoughts, unaware that the silence of the night carries more than mere sleep.
There is something in those lands. Something known by different names. Something that existed before it was ever named.
And the town is its own.
A Folk Horror
Chupa Cue is a short folk horror in top-down 3/4 pixel art. Move freely through the town's streets and perform the necessary rituals, in any order you choose, before darkness takes hold or madness sets in. Search for and manage your items carefully to survive and avoid walking into dead ends. And beware of the shadows.
A Shape in the Dark
Dynamic lights and shadows swallow the character and are core mechanics of the game.
A Procedural Town
Every new playthrough, a new town. Different streets, houses, and alleys. Like a dream forgotten upon waking.
