About this game
What this game is, in the developer's words
what do you fear?
It drags down on you...
It's been so long since you've last been with her, seen her... Something inside of you eats at you. The world around you is bleak and dark, but the thought of meeting her once again keeps you going.
Follow the short linear story as you fight with your own mind, your fears and worries taken form, as you search for the part of yourself you've lost.
This short adventure serves as a companion piece to vai5000 and maji*'s 2025 track of the same name, emerald, and expands on the story of the song. It builds on vai5000's prior release of oath, acting as a smaller self contained experience in the same vein.
Features:
A mostly linear narrative:
Explore a small top-down RPG world as you progress through the story of emerald, talking to mysterious characters along the way and fighting off Wraiths originating from your own mind. The main game will take you around 2 hours to complete, longer if you aim for all achievements - but you're free to sprint to the end too!
Multiple unique encounters:
Each battle is with a unique Wraith with properties and strategies specific to it - each battle a representation of that Wraiths personality and how it relates to your own feelings. Who you decide to take on might even determine how your story plays out in the end...
Hand-drawn art and animation:
A combination of custom pixel art and hand drawn designs shape the world of emerald, including segments of bespoke animation work and effects by vai5000, building on top of the style of the previous game, oath - now expanded with more animation work than ever before..
One story, multiple outcomes
While the story of emerald is a linear adventure, taking place across a singular day, depending on what you discover and what you choose to do, your ending may change...
Please note: as a free experience, 'emerald' is intentionally not as expansive as 'oath', and a decent bit shorter. If you would like to play a longer and more fleshed out story, check out 'oath"!
