You are able to attack your opponent by playing Character Cards that advance across the board as well as playing Settings or Narrative cards, which will change key aspects of the game to your favor.

Keyword System
In Masterworks of Horror, cards have keywords that give each one unique abilities in a literary battle. These keywords allow for card synergy through different archetypes that are associated with the masters of horror themselves.
Legendary Authors
Edgar Allan Poe
Choose the “Master of the Macabre” Edgar Allan Poe. His cards, like his works of old, revolve around death and their rewards. The “Evermore” keyword allows you to make Masterworks composed of cards that will never die. They will return to your deck to be drawn and played continuously. Kill your characters, resurrect them, and keep the literary battle going with this author.
H.P. Lovecraft
Or maybe hulking beasts is more your style of horror. H.P. Lovecraft, the father of cosmic horror, is known for making unfathomable horrors that lie in the stars. Bide your time and control the playboard while you build your knowledge. The “Awaken” keyword allows you to play monstrous gods with an extra effect as long as you have gathered enough knowledge. Decide what cosmic horrors you will conjure to your aid.
Trapped Authors
Many more authors await in Masterworks of Horror: The Prologue. These masters of their craft have been trapped by H.P. Lovecraft in an attempt to steal their very essence. Confined in the famous “Necronomicon”. They only possess a fraction of their powers through the “Erase” keyword. Through this keyword, they are able to take away the keywords and powers on other cards to even the battle. Do you have what it takes to set them free?
