About this game

What this game is, in the developer's words

Psychological horror puzzle. Control 16 unique camera feeds to spot escapees, open doors, and trigger sounds, guiding a person through a lab breach where a mistake is not permitted.

Sole Mistake is a point-and-click psychological horror puzzle. You sit at a wall of 16 monitors.

We didn't make a mistake. They escaped. Somewhere inside that facility, there's a man in a hazmat suit.

He doesn't know you're watching. You open doors. Trigger sounds. Route him through the dark, one room at a time.

Some rooms are empty. Some are not.

There is no direct contact, yet every decision you make is the difference between his safety and death. And if he doesn't walk out, you don't either.

Don't question authority. Don't make a single mistake. Not that you can.

Progression

Each level is a map of connected rooms. The agent starts in a room, exits from another, and we repeat. Until certain things start changing. What doesn't change is the odd environment, your very paranormal control room and the entire experience of controlling while being the one that's controlled.

From the control panel you manage everything remotely without ever fully exposing yourself to risk. The only way you die is if the agent you guide dies because of a mistake that you made. But that shouldn't be possible. Rooms have doors between them, and monsters shouldn't be able to open them, yet some may be a bit too smart.

You are also given access to the lights in each room as well as an alarm that's within each room. These sound devices will help you in guiding our agent to different rooms, or perhaps guiding lab escapees to a false hunt, clearing the path for our agent. Of course to successfully do this, you need to pay close attention to all the monitors. If you can't see a monster that either means there is no monster, or that the monster is hid too well into the darkness. That's why you are on the job, you are good at this.

To complete the job, you'll need to understand how different escapees behave, so observe and understand their patterns. Some just patrol and wait, some are very reactive to sound, some are disturbed when there is light, and some are well they are a bit too smart, sentient at least. But don't worry, if a room looks safe it probably is safe and all that's needed is to go one step at a time, from one safe room to the other, while keeping all the doors locked. Unless they got broken.

As you progress, you might see things you shouldn't have, or get the feeling that there is more to this. You will understand everything, but first you will do as you are told. If the agent doesn't question your guidance, you shouldn't question your assignment. It is simply your assignment. If he dies, you also die.

In the end, you will understand the "Sole Mistake" experiment. Thank you for your participation. Nearly everything will make sense.
