A railbus is a very lightweight type passenger rail vehicle (typically non-articulated or rigid frame) that shares many aspects of its construction with a bus, usually having a bus, or modified bus, body and having four wheels on a fixed base, instead of on bogies. These railbuses design developed in the 1930s, have evolved into larger dimensions, performance and characteristics similar in appearance to a light railcar.
Railbuses designed for use specifically on little-used railway lines were commonly employed in countries such as Austria, Germany, Italy, France, United Kingdom and Sweden. The diesel railcar series ÖBB 5081 is the Austrian version of the railbus (Schienenbus), originally introduced in the 1950’s and used throughout the 1960’s.
Whilst today railbuses are being replaced by modern light DMU designs, you can bring the ÖBB 5081 Schienenbus back to the rails with Train Simulator. Featuring an authentic model, detailed cab and realistic sounds recorded from the real unit this locomotive is ready for operation. The pack includes highly-detailed loco along with three Career scenarios for the Drautalbahn: Klagenfurt - Spittal Millstättersee route.
