What this game is, in the developer's words
Tentacle monsters have taken pony waifus hostage. It's your job to save them all through extreme violence, achieve pony zen, do Stardust responsibly, and don't think about the meaning of one guy’s war against the universe. Or why cats. This is an accessible cute 'em up after all!
Waifus. Ponies. Tentacles. Cats. One angry colt with a gun. Get Your Tentacles Off My Waifu is all about getting tentacles off your waifus, while trying not to get consumed by monsters to whom they belong - monsters who do not want to give them back.
Simple? Save your first waifu and see where it goes from there - they aren't just mares-in-distress. Unless you decide horseplay works best and start throwing them at the tentacle monsters.

GYTOMW is a classic, accessible SHMUP, like in the good old days. Don’t have to be pixel perfect to make it past the first stage - being good enough suffices. Usually. Definitely won’t brick your console on the first graze.
An actual story! Everything happens for a reason. This includes cats. Lots of cats. And of course, ponies, or the Poneh in the local language.
Take back waifus! There's 19.5 pony waifus to save from the giant tentacle monsters. Save them and enjoy tons of interactions (with consequences) - or throw them at the monsters. You monster.
Out-of-shooting gameplay galore! Apart from exploring the wonderful world of pony waifus, meditate on pony zen, engage in the obligatory crafting mechanic, and of course, use Stardust. Responsibly. Very responsibly.
Multiple endings! What you say and how you treat the waifus affects the endings. And you know what that means, don't you? Replayability!
