About this game
What this game is, in the developer's words
Inventory Apocalypse is a top-down shooter roguelite with a grid based inventory system. Navigate a zombie infested world while keeping your backpack organized. With a variety of tools to collect and upgrades to choose from, each run is unique. Every moment counts as you run, scavenge and fight.
Auto Shooter + Inventory Management
This game is for people that enjoy the high octane onslaught of autoshooters, but would like more involved gameplay mechanics and a higher skill ceiling. In Zombie Survivors: Inventory Apocalypse, you must show that you have what it takes to survive the endless waves of enemies closing in, while periodically managing your backpack and weapons belt to keep up as enemy difficulty increases over time. Items that you gather are stored in your backpack where they can be picked up, rotated and placed to maximize your space.
Items and Upgrades
What your character can do is decided by what items you have and the upgrades that you choose. Items are gathered either from scavenging wrecked cars or dropped by killed enemies. These items vary in utility from "consumable" healing items, items that provide passive buffs and weapon items. While passive items will have an effect from inside your backpack, weapon items must be placed in belt slots to be used. Find the balance of item management in the different sections of your inventory while also avoiding dead-ends and masses of zombies.
Upgrades are another way to get stronger. Similar to the leveling up mechanics found in other autoshooters, you gain experience overtime by killing enemies. These experience points can be spent on different upgrades that can decide what kind of run you will have. Upgrades include: increasing your line of sight, gaining a compass that points to car wrecks, upgrading inventory capacity and others. While the items you collect are completely up to chance, you can account for that variability by picking upgrades that have synergy with you load-out.
Procedurally Generated Arena
Every run is different, not only with the items you get but with the area you play in. Obstacles, lootable wrecks and enemy locations are all generated each round (with the exception of one wreck at the beginning). There is also no exploration limit in any given direction, making builds that involve high mobility and enemy avoidance more viable. While obstacles can still generate in ways that produce choke points and areas you can get cornered, you'll never have to worry about getting stuck at the edge of the map.
Where this game goes depends on you!
Making this game was a blast and I'm ready to see if people have just as much fun playing it as I did making it! I'm very excited to see what other people think about it and I appreciate constructive feedback. As an individual, I am pleased about how this went as a project and I am excited to work on more things. However, if this game is well received and enough people would enjoy more content, such that I could justify spending more time and bringing on additional talent, I would be just as passionate about adding things to this game as I would be about working on a new one.
Thanks for reading about this game, and a special thanks if you play it!
